So, your next vehicle purchase is going to be an SUV, and you’ve decided that you want to experience the luxury of a Cadillac. The premier American luxury marque has no shortage of options in that regard, but they all have their own specific strengths. How’s a shopper near Milton, FL pick the right one for them?

Today, we’re here to compare two popular SUVs—the 2024 Cadillac XT4 and 2024 Cadillac XT5. They’re both similar in a lot of ways, but there are a few key differences that you should be aware of before you break out your checkbook. Let’s check ‘em out.

Cadillac XT4 vs. XT5: Size

One of the most salient distinctions between the two is their size. While they both have seating for five and they’re both technically considered compact luxury SUVs, the XT5 borders on the midsize class, so it’s noticeably bigger on the inside.

Here’s a quick breakdown of XT4 vs. XT5 dimensions:

  2024 XT4 2024 XT5
Passenger capacity 5 5
Head room (front/rear) 39.4 in. / 38.3 in. 37.9 in. / 36.6 in.
Shoulder room (front/rear) 57.0 in. / 55.1 in. 58.3 in. / 56.3 in.
Hip room (front/rear) 54.5 in. / 49.8 in. 56.1 in. / 54.8 in.
Leg room (front/rear) 44.1 in. / 39.5 in. 41.2 in. / 39.0 in.
Cargo volume to rear row 22.5 cu. ft. 30.0 cu. ft.
Cargo volume to front row 48.9 cu. ft. 63.0 cu. ft.

Most of their passenger measurements are within a couple inches of each other; the biggest difference is their cargo space, which the XT5 predictably has a lot more of. If you find yourself taking a long road trip with a lot of luggage, or if you regularly need to use the entire back row for seating, the XT5 may be a smarter choice.

Cadillac XT4 vs. XT5: Interior

Both SUVs are very well-equipped with standard and available features, but step inside them and you’ll spot a couple of key differences.

Perhaps the most apparent difference is in their infotainment setups. The XT4 recently got a massive overhaul in terms of tech and now boasts a giant standard 33-inch curved LED display that handles media, navigation, driver information, and more. On the other hand, the XT5 has an 8-inch center screen and an available 8-inch digital driver information cluster.

Despite the difference in screen sizes, both come standard with a ton of connectivity features, including wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, SiriusXM®, in-vehicle Wi-Fi, Cadillac Connected Access, and multiple USB ports. They can also both be optioned with premium features like wireless phone charging, head-up displays, premium sound systems, and plenty of other extra goodies.

Cadillac XT4 vs. XT5: Safety

One major way in which the pair doesn’t differ is that they have a massive selection of safety features, many of which come standard across all trim levels. Both come with:

  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • HD Rear Vision Camera
  • Rear Park Assist
  • Safety Alert Seat
  • Teen Driver

This list of standard features is bolstered by a number of available safety upgrades, including Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, Side Blind Zone Alert, Reverse Automatic Braking, HD Surround Vision, and more.

Cadillac XT4 vs. XT5: Performance

All XT4 models come with a 2.0-liter Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and a smooth-shifting 9-speed automatic transmission. It can be optioned with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive—FWD models are rated for up to 29 MPG on the highway and AWD models are rated for 28 MPG on the highway.

The XT5 has two available powertrain options. Less expensive trims come with a 2.0-liter Turbo 4-cylinder, while the upper-level trim comes with a robust 3.6-liter V6 that creates 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque for an added boost of power. The XT5 is also available with a choice between front-wheel and all-wheel drive, and while it gets slightly less fuel economy than the XT4 on average, it’s still capable of 29 MPG on the highway.

Both the XT4 and XT5 also have available performance enhancing features like the Drive Mode Selector, which allows you to adjust the vehicle dynamics on the fly based on driving preferences and road conditions. Drive Modes include Tour, Sport, Snow/Ice, and Off-Road for the XT5 AWD.

Cadillac XT4 vs. XT5: Price

Both Cadillac SUVs are available in three different trim levels, but their prices differ a bit, with the XT5 being the more expensive of the two. Here’s a side-by-side comparison of trims with their starting MSRP:

  2024 XT4 2024 XT5
Luxury $37,895 $43,895
Premium Luxury $41,495 $50,195
Sport $41,995 $56,795

The XT4 is the most affordable SUV in the Cadillac lineup—in fact, it’s also one of the most affordable luxury vehicles on the market, making it perfect for shoppers on a budget who still want to enjoy an SUV with the nicest features.
